Abstract:Who would have thought a car company could move this fast? Honda, the fairy-tale come-from-nowhere auto success of the Eighties, suddenly started falling apart in the early Nineties when the japanese economy sank back to reality. Business dried up. Export sales sagged as the yen strengthened. The sport-utility boom? Honda missed it -- completely. The company lost its famous sense of Japanese tastes. Honda's car sales fell in 1993 and again in 1994. Yet now, just two years later, Honda is zooming ahead of competitors to enjoy the great success of its 48-year history.
