Abstract:This report examines the market for savoury snacks in Western Europe. For the purposes of this report, the market has been divided into the following eight sectors: chips/crisps; extruded snacks; tortilla chips; corn chips; popcorn; pretzels; nuts; other savoury snacks. Figures in tables are calculated from unrounded data and may not sum. The market for savoury snacks in Western Europe totalled US$9 billion in 2000, a decline of 8.6% over 1999. The decline was mainly attributable to the weak performance of the euro in 2000, in contrast to a strong US dollar - consequently, market value is negatively influenced through conversion into US dollars. Ibis is partially misleading, as real terms growth in local currencies was positive in most countries.
