Abstract: | This paper discusses the lack of measures of the ability to communicate effectively with members of foreign cultures. Also the evidence of the effect of intercultural competence on expatriate success using a comprehensive model is still missing. A structural equation model with multi-criteria measures both constructs was tested in a pilot study using self-assessments of German students who had concluded an overseas assignment. It is shown that HRM managers should use the components of intercultural competence as "soft" criteria for international employee selection and personnel development. |
