Abstract:A generalization of the optimal stopping problem usually referred to as the secretary problem is considered. In the generalization the total number of applicants is known, but the number arriving per day is a random variable. In addition,an optimal stopping problem with multiple stops, that is a random number of applicants arrive randomly over time, and the number of chosen secretaries is more than one,is treated. For an optimal policy in order for an applicant to be selected by decision maker, the applicant's value must be large in absolute magnitude and be high from among all the applicants.
