Abstract:The stages of the construction of a legally defensible selection test are specified such as a job analysis, item development, preliminary testing, statistical item analysis and revision. Attention is called to the necessity of repeating preliminary testing, statistical item analysis and revisions several times before all the criteria are met. In the final stage,a criterion-related validity should be established, that is,the relationship of test scores to job or training performance measures. It is underlined that selection test should save the organization money by increasing the probability of selecting, placing or promoting the most qualified people.
