Abstract: | The unanimity principle that underlies financial decision-making rules isthetically unacceptable and empirically invalid. Ecological sustainability requires radically different decision rules. This paper discusses three possible methods: life cycle analysis; full cost (or total cost) accounting; and non-quantitative accountability. Once decision-makers abandon the unrealistic and invalid assumptions of the unanimity models, no theoretically correct model is possible. |
