Abstract:It has always been difficult to measure qualitative aspects of the labour force. Two commonly cited indices of employment segregation; the Hakim index (1981) and Duncan index (1955) are examined offering new insights to understanding the problems. The examples are drawn from employment segregation between women and men in Britain.
