Abstract:The transformation in women's work roles raises several important issues of decision making regarding household consumption, child care, income, and expenditure patterns. Recent research shows that the two-earner household does not seem to have higher standard of living, due to the high cost of earning the second income. The household expenditure patterns of three types of households are compared over the time for 1972-73 and 1984.
