| Abstract: | Some facts of American experience concerning antitrust policy and legislation are described and reconsidered. The observed evolution of antitrust and competition policies in Europe is also examined. Special attention is paid to the evidence from the United Kingdom. Taking a very long view, i.e. going as back in the past as possible, it is shown that the recent history of antitrust policy is intertwined with the history of the modern State and many of its internal contradictions. On the other hand, the comparative analysis highlights the specificity of the way the European Community is approaching these issues. |
