Abstract:Franchisors and franchisees have conflicts over territories, promotion, managerial control and other issues. The purpose of this article is not to profile the dark side of franchising. It is to examine dark side issues from a recently proposed theoretical framework of entrepreneurship. By applying the framework it becomes evident that certain risks and disadvantages are inherent in franchising and franchisor-franchisee relationship. Both disfunctional outcomes and possible solutions may be predicted, recognizing that in an imperfect world, problems with franchising are unavoidable.
