Abstract:Bielorussia with its huge markets and the Czech Republik with its cheap but skilled labour force are the two countries in East and Middle Europe, which attract German enterprises most. While joint ventures of big corporations fail in these regions, two middle sized German firms, Neoplan and Mann+Hummel turned out te be very successful. The bus manufacturer Neoplan is engaged in vehicle production in Bielorussia, while Mann+Hummel, which manufactures filter systems for the automobile industry, took over a Bohemian firm with the same profile. The success stories of the two German firms are described.
