| Abstract: | The competitiveness of USA firms depends upon improving product quality and reducing customer response time through JIT/TQC production systems. The enhance the effectiveness of JIT/TQC systems, a line stop strategy is proposed which prevents unnecessary reworks and safety stocks by ensuring 'quality at the source'. There is also a discussion of the underlying principles of the line stop strategy, preconditions to its successful applications for practical settings, and its potential benefits and shortcomings. |
