Abstract:This study examined the strategy/environment performance paradigm in a centrally planned economy (PRC) in transition to a market driven economy. Based on a survey of Chinese managers in the electronics industry found that during this transformation, firms exhibited distinctive strategies, and these strategies were related to perceived environmental uncertainty. Managers' perceptions of environmental uncertainty were found to be negatively related to proactive strategies and positively related to defensive strategies.
