| Abstract: | The article examines the sources of the piracy problem in China. It provides an abbreviated history of modern China's commercial relations with the outside world to provide context for its subsequent discussion of approaches to solutions. The article then discusses the intellectual property laws of the PRC and the agencies and legal authorities responsible for their enforcement. The article draws from the author's experience to discuss various means by which IP owners can navigate the morass of legal, cultural and political obstacles to interdict counterfeits and to prevent recidivism. |
