Abstract:China's military hospitals get a dose of investment. When Chinese patriarch Deng Xiaoping and other ailing senior party cadres need their blood transfused, nothing compares with the treatment available at the 301 Hospital of the People's Liberation Army in Beijing. Deng and his comrades are not pulling rank though; since the mid 1980s most of the Chinese military's sprawling network of hospitals and health clinics has been open to anyone with money. They are also open to investors, attracted by a booming economy that has produced a class of newly rich.
