Abstract:In spite of successful economic developments in Slovenia, it cannot be realistically expected that the country would join the EU sooner than in next 10 to 20 years. The main reason is the lack of motives for enlargement on the part of the European Union. The union ha very little trade with the Eastern European countries, and enlargement would gravely increase expenses for social and agricultural policy. The disadvantages of Slovenia are particularly a very expensive public sector, a very centralized system of government, a complicated economic legislation, and an inactive economic policy. .
