Abstract:As performance overtakes prerogative in China's state-owned boardrooms, the president of Citic is looking for favour abroad. But is time running out for Wang Jun? It was an odd coincidence. The day after Chinese businessman Wang Jun sipped coffee with President Bill Clinton in the White House, the American investment banker who sponsored his visa application wrote $50,000 worth of cheques to the Democratic National Committee. The timing of the largesse is certainly raising eyebrows, especially since it coincided with a wave of questionable Asian donations to the Democrats.
