| Abstract: | Continuous improvement has become a necessary condition for firms seeking a sustainable competitive advantage in global markets. The purpose of this article is to illustrate an effective process for continuous improvement used by the Cummins Engine Company. The improvement process focuses on 5 key business areas: throughput, quality, safety, cost/waste elimination, and employee development. The improvement process has provided the firm with benefits which are tangible and strategically important. |
