Abstract:Faced with the continuous need to change , large organisations have an alarming tendency to behave like a sophisticated fighter aircraft which are designed to be aerodynamically unstable in order to maximise manoeuvrability. But large organisations are more like supertankers. Relatively few have mastered the technique of changing almost to the point of reinventing themselves. At the heart of such companies is a hard earned inherent stability.
