Abstract:With their wallets, consumers are cheering the rapid advances in personal computers. But are they getting their money's worth? Call it Pentium envy. This feeling of covetousness mixed with inadequacy is familiar to owners of personal computers that do noy use the market's most powerful processor chips as their brains. These days of 200-megahertz Pentiums, any central processing unit running at less than 150 MHz is bound to leave its buyer pining for a faster CPU. And many will promptly plunk down cash or plastic for new PCs even before the warranty has expired on their current machines.
