Abstract:This paper compares work and career experiences of executive men and women, studying financial services executives through information on career histories and organizational outcomes, and survey measures of work experiences. The findings suggest that there are more similarities than differences between male and female executives. This raises questions about why many of the gender differences were not found in organizational output, that are reported in the literature. Prior research has suggested that most of the difference in total pay between women and men is due to men receiving bigger payments that is contingent on performance.
