Abstract:According to the Customs' statistics, China's total import and export volume in 1996 reached US$ 289.9 billion, up 3.2% over last year. Among it, surplus was US$ 12.24 billion. It is estimated that the total import and export volume in 1997 will reach US$ 310 billion, and export and import be basically balanced. The favourable factors for the development of foreign trade this year are as follows: There is great demand on the world market. The state has increased input in terms of export tax refund in order to ensure that the exporting enterprises would not suffer losses. It also has increased credit funds and thus eased the state of shortage of funds for export. Besides, the foreign trade enterprises have reduced the cost of production and circulation, thus reducing the cost of gaining foreign exchange.
