Abstract:The challenges of the market economy in China for economic theory touch on these topics: private versus public ownership of assets, individualism versus the collective good, multiparty versus oneparty polical systems, Western legal systems versus Eastern semiformal legal systems. China is an experimental station for both public and private enterprises, as state-owned enterprises coexist with collectively owned enterprises and private enterprises. Some stateowned enterprises, especially those which have joint ventures with foreign corporations seem to be efficient as they are financially independent and making profits.
