Abstract:Taiwan's progress in financial liberalization and the prospects of joining the World Trade Organization promise to open the local market even wider to global competition. This trend, and the rise of direct financing options , is spurring local banks to step up efforts to gain a foothold in overseas financial markets, according to Jeffrey Koo Liensung, the chairman and chief executive officer of the Chinatrust Commercial Bank who is a national policy adviser to President Lee Teng-hui and the head of Chinatrust and China Leasing Group.
