Abstract: | Transition in Eastern Europe implies a substantial systemic change that is bound to entail large social and economic cost. For this reason political and social considerations are an important constraint on the speed and scope of transition. Macroeconomic stabilisation and liberalisation are the main elements of the programme of reforms. They are usually followed by structural reforms, such as transformation of the enterprise sector, aiming to improve performance at a microeconomic level. |
