| Abstract: | As the central government has decided to prohibit lumbering, 12-15 million m3 of lumber will be reduced for allocation very year. By 2000, the shortage of lumber will hit 40 million m3 which has to be satisfied by import. Thus, China will seek cooperation with foreign business in three approaches: 1) Promoting commercial forest construction with foreign loans or direct investment and to identify the comprehensive lumber utilization projects; 2) Cooperating in manufacturing technology of wood substitute products at the downstream of forestry; 3) Cooperating with Chinese domestic forestry enterprises in technology geared to the need of both sides and export of labor services, and seek for the possibility of buying wood land in countries with abundant wood resources to set up set stable lumber import base. |
