Abstract: | What are the incentives for people to keep on learning and developing once they have reached the boardroom? The authors assess research that suggests drawing on personal interests is the best way to motivate directors to widen their perspectives. From the HR practitioner's point of view, setting up boardroom education programmesusually requires lots of persuasion -- even seduction. Yet, perhaps surprisingly, a study the authors carried out for Roffey Park Management Institute found that senior managers actually engage in a great deal of personal research and social activity that is beneficial to their work. |
