| Abstract: | Using a large Finnish data set, the author studies how wealth influences the decision to become self-employed. The main result is that personal wealth increases the probability of a person becoming self-employed. This suggests the presence of liquidity constraints. The high unemployment rate is the most important economic problem in the European Union. Entrepreneurship and self-employment are frequently mentioned as potential remedies to this problem. |
