Abstract: | One recent approach that organizations have taken to help employees meet the competing demands of work life and non-work life are WLB programs. When the issue first arose, attention centered on ideological debates about whether organizations should play any role in helping employees cope with non-work demands. Then market forces intervened, and many firms found that recruiting and retaining talented employees made ideological debates secondary to practical demands. Like it or not, organizations were forced to be concerned with WLB issues. This article address as the problem. It reports on the implementation of WLB programs in two major consulting organizations. |
