Abstract:The author states that this paper contains some highly provocative ideas, ones that could potentially stimulate significant debate in the area of managerial and organizational cognition. But like the referees, the author remained to be persuaded as to the validity of their thesis: To what extent perceptions of organizational phenomena are similar in form to perceptions of physical systems. To what extent their views reconcilable with recent social constructionist accounts were grounded in the notions of sense-making, social identity theory, categorization theory and enactment. How far managerial perceptions do merely filter some 'objective reality' or how far do they actually create reality.
