Abstract:This article deals with Irish industrial relations institutions and the impact American multinational corporations (MNCs) have on them. The paper studies the ways in which American MNCs manage industrial relations in their Irish subsidiaries and aims to find out how the practices of the MNCs have influenced the industrial relations system in Ireland. The results of the study indicate that many American MNC practices are at variance with traditional Irish industrial relations practices, and some changes indirectly related to MNC practices are identified in the Irish industrial relations system. A hybridization process of these systems is seen to take place in Ireland.
