Abstract:The article examines channels and processes through which knowledge from outside the company is transferred to employees who can utilize that knowledge for purposes of innovation. The study aims to identify particular abilities of key employees who facilitate this kind of vital knowledge flows. A case study of a medical devices R&D group was conducted with a network analysis and interviews. The findings of the study indicate that one individual rarely possesses all the abilities needed to both acquire and share external knowledge. These two tasks are usually done by two different sets of employees.
