Abstract: | Israel's hyperinflation of the eighties forced banks to automate their services. Now inflation rate is reduced below 20%, but newer generations of electronic services appear in Israelian banks. For example, United Mizrahi Bank developed home banking several years ago, but the idea was ahead of its time, and Mizrahi had to cut its losses. Now Bank Leumi finds itself in a similar situation: it developed a huge data-processing unit center near Tel Aviv, but just before completion, it turned out that the bank overexpanded. It has to sell some part of its capacity to other firms. |
