Abstract: | The study focuses on the influence of institutional pressures on an organization's choice of boundary- spanning strategies like boundary redefinition i.e. system membership and buffering or bridging. Using data from a sample of hospitals, the effects of both institutional environments and organizational characteristics were examined. Multihospital system membership exhibited significant association with bridging activity. Further, a strong system-model presence is associated with hospitals' propensity to join system. However most of that relationship seems specific to secular, nonprofit system membership. |
