Abstract:For the restricted case of multistage stochastic systems, where finite capacity or storage constraints are involved, there are no closed product form expressions, and numerical computation rapidly becomes infeasible due to the astronomical number of states involved. A new bounding methodology for nonproduct form systems is developed for finite single-server exponential tandem queues that provides quick indicators of the system's performance. The methodology is based on closed form expressions for slightly modified original systems, and thus is easy to understand and apply. A computationally attractive and intuitively obvious and simple lower and upper bound is proposed for the call congestion.
