Abstract: | A study of the comparative frames of reference concerning wages among white-collar and blue-collar industrial employees in Israel, comparing their pay with others and testing the determinants of pay comparisons, related to the variables: mobility and opportunities, friendship ties, promotion prospects, job satisfaction and pay position. The similarity and relevance thesis. Functional or instrumental theories. The social proximity thesis. Sample, data, and the functional and proximity thesis.
