Abstract:The problem of resistance to changes examined. It is argued that to overcome resistance to change a new model of resistance is needed. The systems approach is offered. The connection between resistance and survival is illuminated using the biological theory of autopoiesis. The characteristics of organizational autopoiesis with its "double-loop" homeostatis are listed. Some results of research into far-from-equilibrium systems - based on synergetics, chaos theory, and catastrophe theory - are made known. The energy exchange between system and environment in a far-from-equilibrium condition may lead to the amplification of changes up to a point where a new dynamic state is initiated. Connections between information theory and change.
