Abstract:The quality program at Celanese Research Company has its roots within the Fibers Marketing Company, which was exposed to the Crosby program in the early 1980s. In implementing Crosby's 14-step program Celanese found itself implementing a cultural change throughout the corporation. A number of major problems were identified. 10 concepts are analyzed regarding work environment, employee involvement, products, processes, systems, and quality reputation. Implications for R and D are summarized, starting with the general quality management goals in strategy development. A list of Crosby's 14 steps is supplemented.
