Abstract:Limitations of the product life cycle concept are discussed. A framework is presented for understanding product-market evolution. Literature is reviewed. The demand system, the supply system, and the supporting resource environment are examined. Demand-side and supply-side perspectives are identified. Conceptual gaps are highlighted in the product life cycle framework. Population ecology perspectives on market evolution are outlined. Stages of market evolution are identified and described. An ecology model is presented and tested. Main problems of the model are examined. Goals are suggested for further research.
