| Abstract: | Savings and loan (S&L) associations play a decisive role in the U.S. economy. In the 1980's a great increase has occurred in the number of failed savings and loan institutions. To prevent such failures, the regulators would need an early warning model. Such a model should flag potential failed firms to prevent actual failures. The authors of the paper propose a robust multivariate procedure which can successfully identify such firms well ahead of an actual failure date. |
