Abstract: | Extensive studies have been made of the police patrol process in dense-population urban areas, but these urban models cannot usually be applied to rural settings, the specific problems of wide-area patrol allocation have been rarely explored. Some aspects that make wide-area patrol different from urban patrol include low population density, poor access to certain parts of the region being covered, and many distinct types of calls for service. A model is developed as a policy tool for wide-area police patrol where travel time is significant. An illustrative example is presented, including a comparison with a simulation model. |
