Abstract:The paper discusses Freeman and Tse (1989) (for short FT). FT ask why the stock rice reaction to a given amount of earning "surprise" is not an intertemporal constant. The most transparent answer is to be found in Cornell and Landsman (1989). They argue that the new information not only gives rise to a market forecast error of current earnings, but to a revision in market forecasts on future-period earnings. Finally, Landsman criticizes FT for neglecting some correlation between certain variables.
