| Abstract: | The article tests the "business cycle" model of trade union membership advocated by Bain and Schnabel. Explanatory variables include change of wages, price, employment, share of employment in services. The data of FRG for the 1956-86 period are used. Empirical modelling is based on the newly established link between cointegration techniques and error correction mechanisms. |
