Abstract: | Prices for acquisition objects often exceed the results of financial evaluation via usual methods. The paper deals with the question whether those - in some cases remarkably; high - prices could be justified by the strategy of the acquiring company. To do so acquisitions are first set into a strategic context. From this point of view they are characterized as instruments for the realization of a target company profile which is most promising according to the underlying objectives. It is shown then that usual evaluation methods capture only a part of the strategic contribution of the acquisition object. Thus it is necessary to examine the costs that arise if an equivalent strategic position is to be built. |
