| Abstract: | A concept is developed which permits the ideal state of factory safety to be defined in stages. Furthermore, it facilitates an analysis of the actual state, an assessment of the result and enables decisions to be made with regard the necessary measures to be taken. This concept is illustrated using the case of the SANDOZ-Pharma AG. The efforts to enhance work safety are described. Seven steps of the company's safety programme are reviewed. The risk of occurrence of emergency situations is assessed. Different risk areas are revealed. A risk matrix is constructed. The most important elements of an action plan are listed. It is shown how the safety concept can be adjusted to the changing circumstances. |
