Abstract:The Japanese economy is showing signs of strain from its surging growth of the last few years, and the rates of economic growth in three other major markets, Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan, are moderating. However, the booming economies of Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia are creating an urgent need for a stronger information services (IS) infrastructure. They combined with other East Asian markets should fuel a 12 to 18 p.c. increase in information technology investments in 1990. Companies that grew most and that could not keep up in 1989 are shown. Asia spent USD 66 billion on IS in 1989 , up 40 p.c. from 1987.
