Abstract: | The purpose is to assess forecast accuracy when judgemental forecasts of practitioners are combined with quantitative approaches. The value of judgement alone, and augmented by quantitative combinations is assessed. Further, an evaluation is made of the impact of data variability on the choice between expert judgement, quantitative forecasting procedures, or a combination of the two. Forecast accuracy is shown to improve when judgemental forecasts are replaced by quantitative techniques either alone, or in combination with judgement, for stable to moderately stable series. |
