Abstract: | Faced with rapidly changing environment and competitive pressures, many companies have restructured and cut personnel to reduce labour costs. A resizing strategy is suggested which could help a company adapt and grow in changing markets by encouraging both innovation and a continuous redefinition of the company's market niche. Resizing represents a continuous action involving all levels of the organization. Downsizing and restructuring may be a part of a resizing strategy, but they do not represent the complete restructuring plan. Resizing both requires and creates a process of strategic management that integrates marketing, capital investment, information systems and human resource management. The role of a high-commitment work system is detailed. |
