Abstract:The current trend of the growth rate of money supply is of particular importance to market participants. A time series approach to the modelling of monthly money supply series developed earlier is utilized to provide a technique for estimating the current trend of growth rates for three of the most closely monitored aggregates in the UK. These rates are computed from decompositions of intervention-augmented ARIMA models, the interventions being identified and their magnitude estimated by an iterative detection procedure. The forecasting models are based on the monetary aggregates MO, M3 and M5 /formerly known as PSL2/.
