Abstract:Training programmes are spreading throughout British industry, but they can only be successful if they are continuously monitored and their effects measured. This article describes a case study taken from Shell's Stanlow site and illustrates not only the benefits of measuring a multiskilling programme, but also how it can be done. However, there are difficulties to be overcome in measuring and monitoring, which though not insurmountable, are still to be reckoned with.
